Assessing the Impact of Emerging Technology on Enterprise Information Security

Abstract

This research study investigated the impact of emerging technologies, which are Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain, on enterprise information security & its posture, with emphasis on cybersecurity incidents, vulnerabilities, leadership influence, and organizational resilience. Using a mixed-method design comprising systematic literature review, case study analysis, and quantitative survey data analyzed through correlation and regression techniques, along with methods like SWOT & Triangulation methodology, the findings from the research demonstrate that technology integration depth, rather than adoption alone, is a significant predictor of cybersecurity incidents and vulnerability exposure. The results further indicate that cybersecurity leadership influences security outcomes indirectly by enabling structured, governance-driven adoption practices. Among all the examined variables in the research, the strength of proactive cybersecurity frameworks emerged as the most significant predictor of organizational resilience, exceeding the impact of policies or leadership in isolation. Security policies showed a context-dependent relationship with incident outcomes and were insufficient without a proper, proactive governance-driven framework. Finally, research concluded that effective enterprise information security with an emerging technology environment requires a planned, governance-led integration supported by proactive adaptive cybersecurity frameworks, providing empirical guidance for secure digital transformation.
